Tholos is a hypogeum of the end of 19th century, discovered thanks to construction of via Marconi, a road that during the sulphur trade served to connect the mines to the port. The site consists of a large circular chamber made of limestone and clay, on the top of which there was a circular hole, later walled. There have been several studies of its use. It was thought to be the burial of King Minos or a large silos, but the most credited version is about a large water cistern , as shown by drawings of the 18th and 19th centuries made by French and English travellers.
