Attilio Regolo square rises on the old “floor of the bridge”, a space that used to connect the ancient castle San Giacomo to the city. The square takes its name from the Roman commander who defeated the Carthaginians in the historic Battle of Cape Ecnomo in 256 B.C., near Licata Sea, and according to a legend, Attilio Regolo was closed in a barrel and rolled from the mountain to sea, in the present port.
The square is occupied by several places to enjoy excellent pizza and refreshing granite.
From Attilio Regolo Square you can visit the port and admire the lighthouse, one of the highest in Italy, built in the early 21st century. To the merchant port, once very important for sulfur and grain trade, has joined the marina, the tourist port, landing place of several yachts. Both ports in summer evenings are places of enchanting walks.
